HUD announces $8 million+ in awards for NY Public Housing Agencies and Project Based Rental Assistance

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced over $128 million in awards for Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and Project Based Rental Program (PBRA) owners for the 2023 renewal and new Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program grants. Out of this $128 million, over $8 million went to New York-based PHAs and PBRAs.

The FSS program is an initiative offered to families in HUD-assisted housing where participants receive coaching, service referrals, and establish a family escrow savings account. The goal of these resources is to increase earned income and financial empowerment in these families, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and aid in progress toward economic independence.

Albany County

  • Albany Housing Authority: $370,664
  • NYS Housing Trust Fund Corp: $1,887,671
  • Town of Colonie: $59,543
  • Town of Guilderland: $71,291
  • Cohoes Housing Authority: $72,319

Saratoga County

  • Mechanicville Housing Authority: $72,651
  • Village of Corinth: $70,532
  • Village of Ballston Spa: $49,171

Schenectady County

  • Village of Scotia: $62,353
  • Municipal Housing Authority of the City of Schenectady: $151,757
  • Town of Rotterdam: $61,616

Rensselaer County

  • Troy Housing Authority: $182,952

Montgomery County

  • Village of Fort Plain: $72,141
  • Amsterdam Housing Authority: $224,645

Fulton County

  • City of Johnstown: $70,039
  • Gloversville Housing Authority: $109,864
