Evangeline parish sheriff releases crime statistics

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- In Evangeline Parish, the sheriff's office says their dedication to proactive law enforcement is paying off, and they have the numbers to prove it.
After a strong start to the year by his narcotics investigators, Sheriff Charles Guillory created a breakdown of his office's work from November to the end of January.
In three months, the sheriff's office issued nearly 2,500 citations, with more than 200 arrest and 27 interviews in ongoing investigations. Guillory credits these results to having a full staff in his office, a feat which has not been achieved in several years.
"We hired our last two patrolmen, so we have a full staff. So, for the most part, everybody's being proactive, patrolling the back roads," said Guillory.
With law enforcement across the country being short staffed, Guillory says he's taken extra steps to make sure his deputies stay, and the numbers continue to improve.
"Hoping right now that I can maintain that for a little while and I did give my officers $2 an hour (raise) across the board. Everybody in the department got a $2 an hour. So, I'm hoping that, you know, they'll stay around for a while," Guillory said.
As his office continues to increase their efforts in the most crucial areas of crime, including drugs and thefts, Guillory says his employees share his enthusiasm; brining even more determination to finish the mission.
"I'm confident that our efforts are working and that our drug arrests, of course, is going down. I do have a goal and, of course, it's to have me be the only employee at this office, which means there's no more crime," said Guillory.
With a full staff and boosted morale, Sheriff Guillory says his office is more than prepared to continue this momentum for the rest of the year.
