Taylor Swift’s & Travis Kelce’s Dads Are Going Full Papa Bear Lately — & It Shows How Protective They Are
It doesn’t matter if you’re 4 or 34, dads are gonna dad. That means if someone comes for their children, their protective side is going to come out — even if their kids are fully grown adults (and famous pop stars and/or football players). Taylor Swift’s dad Scott Swift and Travis Kelce’s dad Ed Kelce both showed their papa bear side this week to defend the famous couple, and we are so here for it!
Scott Swift’s Alleged Altercation
Early Tuesday morning, the “Karma” singer was in Sydney, Australia, for her Eras tour international concerts. She and her dad disembarked from a yacht they were hanging out on when her dad allegedly got into an altercation with a paparazzo.
According to a video by an Australian media outlet, per BBC, Swift was walking under an umbrella with Scott and security guard along Neutral Bay Wharf. A guard and a photographer reportedly had an argument about touching umbrellas, when the 71-year-old reportedly hit 51-year-old Ben McDonald.
TMZ shared new footage of the incident on Twitter today, which shows Swift safely getting in the car before Scott walks toward a photographer and a security guard. The camera angle does not show the alleged attack.
McDonald told BBC that Scott “charged in” to attack him. “I’ve been doing this for 23 years and I haven’t been in a situation where someone’s hit me in the chops,” he told the outlet.
A representative for the Grammy winner gave a statement to BBC about the incident: “Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”
“The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now under way by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command,” the New South Wales Police said in a statement.
Fans’ Reaction
Swifties were praising Scott’s behavior on Twitter. “scott swift will either pass you a sandwich or give you a knuckle sandwich it just depends on how you treat his daughter,” one person wrote, which sounds like basically every dad!
“personally i think scott swift should be legally allowed a minimum of 1 punch per pap walk idk,” another person said.
“Whatever Scott Swift did to the paparazzi they 100% deserved it and no one can convince me otherwise,” someone else Tweeted.
Ed Kelce Clapping Back at a ‘Troll’
Scott’s not the only papa bear who has his claws out. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s dad Ed also defended his son and Swift.
The Real Housewives of New York City star Bethenny Frankel recently shared her opinion on Swift and Kelce’s relationship. “When you get into real life and you get into kids and marriage and things like that… it’s not easy (and) relationships take work,” she said, per Daily Mail. “It’s hard, because Taylor Swift is certainly a peacock. So there really usually can only be one peacock in a relationship,” Frankel continued.
Ed shared her comments on Facebook writing, “Who TF is this troll?” Oof! How embarrassing for the reality star.
Someone commented, “She also talked crap about Mama Kelce’s ziploc brand deal. She’s definitely putting the Kelce name in her mouth for clicks and engagement.”
“Just when I didn’t think I could love the Kelce Family anymore we get Ed for another win ????,” another said.
Dad Friends
Ed and Scott are clearly two men with the same protective heart!
Last week, Ed dished to The Sydney Morning Herald about how excited Scott is that Swift is dating Kelce.
“Scott played college football, so he was right into it; I think he likes that his daughter is dating a football player and not a musician,” Ed said, per Us Weekly.
Ed added about the “Cruel Summer” singer, “She’s probably the most famous person in the world, but she doesn’t seem like it. She’s so warm and so gracious.”
Someone Tweeted the perfect representation of Scott and Ed’s newfound friendship.
“Scott Swift and Ed Kelce texting each other today like:” they wrote alongside a GIF with the words, “Girl, you are a messy bench who loves drama and I am into it,” as Kristen Bell high-fives Ted Danson on an episode of The Good Place. We would love to see that group chat!
