SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Ada Pitcher is 100 years old, but her friends and family will tell you she doesn't look a day over 25.
“I’m so very happy to have everyone here," Pitcher said. "We’re all best of friends and it’s wonderful.”
Pitcher was born on a leap day: Feb. 29, 1924, raised 5 children with her husband and worked at General Electric when he was fought in World War II.
“It’s amazing," Joan Lawrence, Pitcher's daughter, said. "She’s been through a lot and she’s come through everything like a champion.”
In a regular year, she said her birthday is celebrated whenever its convenient, but this year they made it special: throwing a party at the Schenectady Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.
“It was either Feb. 28 or Mar. 1 when it wasn’t a leap year and we always made a fuss over mom, she deserved it," Lawrence said.
We asked Pitcher her secret for living a long and happy life: “I don’t have any secret," Pitcher said. "I’m just lucky that it all worked out and that we were all friends, parents and friends all in the same family.”
Her daughters said her determination to work and take care of her family kept her going.
“All through her life she worked and I think if you have work and you have purpose the years fly by," Anne Marie Hughes, Pitcher's daughter said. "Yet here you are, you’re 100, who knew.”
