Old Dominion has hired Maryland assistant Mike Jones as its next head coach, multiple reports confiremd Thursday.
Jones is the former head coach of DeMatha Catholic (MD.), a school he brought to powerhouse status on the national level.
Jones replaces longtime DMV area coach Jeff Jones, who retired earlier this week. Jeff Jones began his head coaching collegiate career at Virginia in 1990.
Mike Jones is an Old Dominion alumni and brought the Monarchs to two NCAA Tournaments, starting as a guard.
Old Dominion finished the 2023-2024 campaign at 7-23. The Monarchs haven’t made the tournament since the 2018-2019 season, but Jones gives hope as an excellent recruiter in the region and coveted developmental coach.
