The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal from the Gyanvapi management committee against an Allahabad High Court order that deemed lawsuits for the "restoration" of a temple on the site of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi maintainable. The High Court held that the "religious character" of a disputed place can only be decided by the court.
