Hillsdale Library to close until summer for upgrades

0

(PORTLAND TRIBUNE) -- The Multnomah County Hillsdale Library will close to the public on Sunday, March 3, to start work on a series of improvements. Project teams expect the work at the branch library at 1525 S.W. Sunset Blvd. to last until summer 2024.

The work is funded by the voter-approved 2020 Library building bond. It has already funded improvement projects at the Central Library at 801 S.W. 10th Ave. and the Capitol Hill Library at 10723 S.W. Capitol Hwy., both of which recently reopened. Five libraries will eventually be remodeled and 10 others will be refreshed.

The Hillsdale Library work is part of the refresh projects, providing smaller but still important upgrades. When completed, new features will include:

  • Improved shelf height to create more space for people and better sight lines
  • An engaging children’s area with new, movable furniture
  • New, comfortable reading room chairs (both with and without arms) as well as new lounge chairs in the adult area
  • Automated materials handling to increase the efficiency of checking in and sorting books, freeing up staff time for other work
  • A Tech Bar which provides an area for patrons to use the copy machine, scanner and computers
  • New, lightweight meeting room chairs
  • New carpet for an updated, inviting experience
