19-year-old accused of leading police chase in stolen car with pet husky inside

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 19-year-old faces robbery charges after police say she stole a car from a man preparing to take his pet husky to the vet early Wednesday morning.

Moments after the man loaded his dog into the back seat of his Honda sedan on Kalama River Road, officials say Elizabeth J. Johnson “approached and took the vehicle without permission.” The man tried to stop her, but the car got away

Authorities chased the car southbound along Interstate 5 until an officer was able to stop the car by deflating its tires with spike strips and pinning it near the ramp at Milepost 22.

Officials say they had to use “chemical agents” to stop Johnson from trying to escape.

Johnson now faces charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, motor vehicle theft, attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest, and taking a pet animal.

The husky was not injured, and its owner was able to bring it home.
