The whiskered tern is comfortable in a variety of environments and has a wide “dining table”. During its winter-migratory season, it can be seen hovering over the coastal Perumbakkam wetland, the inland Nanmangalam lake or over an estuarine system such as the Muttukadu backwaters. As the curtains have almost entirely come down on the season, here is a sketch of how this tern lords it over the tilapia-rich Nanmangallam lake
