€70m United ace went from derby hero to zero as he missed two great scoring chances against City

0

Manchester United fell to a hugely disappointing 3-1 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s side had the perfect opportunity to pull off a surprising win after Marcus Rashford’s eighth-minute goal.

The 26-year-old stunned the home crowd by firing in a 25-yard effort off the underside of the crossbar.

But United failed to build on that momentum as they returned empty-handed from the Etihad Stadium.

The scoreline stayed 1-0 until the break before Phil Foden arrowed a left-footed drive into the top corner on 56 minutes.

The England international added another with a superb finish before Erling Braut Haaland capped off an excellent derby win by slotting home a left-footed finish.

The result leaves United with almost no hope for a top-four finish, as they are now 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Derby hero to zero

Rashford, who is valued €70 million by Transfermarkt, turned from Manchester derby hero to zero as he squandered two great scoring chances after his sensational early strike.

If he had controlled the ball with his head 10 minutes after his opener, he would have only the goalkeeper to beat.

Rashford then completely missed the ball after a cross from Bruno Fernandes six minutes later.

He also attempted to win a foul against Kyle Walker in the second half but was dispossessed, allowing Foden to score a brilliant goal.

Rashford’s goal highlighted his talent, but his misses sum up his inconsistencies.
