TTP may return to negotiation table: Pakistani media
Pakistani media reports amidst unprecedented tensions and insecurity in the country have indicated efforts to resume negotiations with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have begun.
Express Tribune, in a report released yesterday, revealed that the de facto authorities of Afghanistan have once again shown a green light for de-escalation and revival of talks between the Pakistani government and the TTP.
Citing Maulana Yousaf Shah, an influential cleric of Haqqania Seminary and member of Pakistan Ulema Council, the report states that Serajuddin Haqqani, the acting Interior Minister of the Taliban, has also signaled a green light towards reviving talks, leaving Pakistanis “hopeful of a positive outcome.”
It’s worth mentioning that Pakistan, besides the political turmoil following the elections, has also experienced its most insecure months in at least a decade.
The Pakistani Taliban have been reported as one of the serious players in these insecurities, with the Pakistani government repeatedly urging the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan not to allow the TTP to use Afghan soil against Pakistan.
The Taliban had previously hosted and mediated negotiations between representatives of the Pakistani government and the TTP, but without fruitful results.
So far, the Taliban has not commented on the possibility of hosting talks between the TTP and the Pakistani government again.
