Young Reds S2s strong showing against Peebles
Linlithgow 40 – 60 Peebles
Saturday 2nd March 2024
Linlithgow started the game, on a sunny cold crisp morning, as they did in the warmup, not switched on. The Reds were struggling for numbers, due to a number of sickness call-offs, leaving two forward substitutes available. Peebles were well organised and scored two tries within the first three minutes.
After ten minutes, the Reds sorted themselves out with a fantastic try on the right from Eric, his first since playing 15 a-side, and converted by Euan. What followed was a competitive match with Blair adding to the Red’s score, further converted by Fergus. Unfortunately, the Red’s two converted tries in the first half didn’t match Peebles’ five tries.
The Red’s confidence grew throughout this game with a strong 2nd half start, with a quick try through the middle from Archie (converted by Fergus), and a subsequent try from Euan on the right wing brought the score closer to cause some worry in the Peebles camp.
The lack of Red’s substitutes began to tell in the final quarter, particularly after a couple of injuries causing players to play out of position. Jack and Archie scored tries through the middle which Euan and Fergus converted, however Peebles finished strongly taking the game beyond reach.
Well done to the boys for playing against strong, well organised opposition, and for not letting their heads go down, but to make for a good competitive game.
