José Marin Makes ANNIKA Award Spring Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE – Maria José Marin has been tabbed to the 2023-24 ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel Spring Watch List, as announced Monday. José Marin is one of 15 collegiate golfers in the country up for consideration as the Player of the Year in women’s collegiate golf.

José Marin is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Spikemark individual rankings, previously starting the spring season as the No. 1 collegiate women’s golf player in the country. Ranked No. 14 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, she leads the Hogs with a 70.43 scoring average with 11 rounds at par or better, five rounds in the 60s, 54 birdies and 166 pars. José Marin won the Blessings Collegiate Invitational behind a 10-under 134 (67-67) and was the runner-up at the Carmel Cup with an 11-under 205 (67-70-68). She has finished in the top 20 in all five tournament appearances.

The 17-year-old Cali, Colombia native is a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week recipient and leads the league in scoring average among freshmen. In just her first collegiate tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links, José Marin tied the freshman 54-hole scoring record with a 205, which was previously set in 2010 by Emily Tubert at the Las Vegas Collegiate.

This marks the 10th year of the ANNIKA Award. José Marin was not on the initial preseason list but earned her way as one of 20 on the Final Fall Watch List in November.

José Marin will look to be the second Hog to win the award, as Maria Fassi was the ANNIKA Award winner in back-to-back years in 2018 and 2019. She is the fifth Hog since 2017-18 to make an ANNIKA Award Watch List for the second time, as past watch list names include Fassi (15 times), Dylan Kim (seven times), Brooke Matthews (twice) and Alana Uriell (seven times).

The Arkansas women’s golf team is on the course right now at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, set to take place through Wednesday, March 6 at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Coverage of the tournament will be broadcast on the Golf Channel from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
