NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) - Norman Police are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 9 on March 1.

According to the Normal Police Department, the accident happened between 48th Avenue SE and 60th Avenue SE on Highway 9 around 7:04 p.m. on Friday, March 1.

Officials say the first investigation into the wreck suggests that a car traveling westbound on Hwy 9 crossed left of center crashing head-on with a car moving eastbound. The first collision led to three more cars crashing into the original wreck.

Police say the driver who crossed the center line has been identified as a 62-year-old female. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later passed away. She was the only passenger in that vehicle.

The driver of the car hit head-on has been identified as a 28-year-old female. She was critically injured and taken to a nearby hospital. There was also a 7-year-old passenger in the vehicle who was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The other three vehicles' passengers either received non-life-threatening injuries or were not injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Norman PD/OUPD Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
