Bill proposes that convicted sex offenders get a vasectomy procedure
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - A forced vasectomy could be one of the punishments for a convicted sex offender if a bill becomes law.
State rep. Delisha Boyd (D-New Orleans), filed the bill, HB166, ahead of the start of the 2024 Regular Louisiana Legislative Session.
HB166 proposes that in addition to existing penalties, "any person convicted of a sex offense shall be subject to a vasectomy procedure" as defined in R.S. 15:541 in Louisiana.
A vasectomy is a surgical procedure performed as a method of birth control in men, according to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
The 2024 Regular Legislative Session starts on March 11 at noon and must end by 6 p.m. on June 3.
Over 525 bills have been filed for consideration, according to the Legislative Communications Office.
