Canby High School student killed by freight train while crossing tracks
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A Canby High School senior is dead after he was hit by a train Monday night, the district superintendent announced Tuesday.
Authorities say Mason Warshaw, 18, was crossing the tracks just north of the Pine Street intersection when he was hit by a northbound freight train. Investigators believe the crash was accidental.
Superintendent Dr. Aaron Downs said the district is extending its condolences to Warsaw's family and friends in the days to come.
"We also offer condolences to our Canby High School students and staff members, especially Mason’s classmates, teachers and support staff," Downs said. "Our district counselors and psychologists are available to students throughout the day today. If you have any concerns about your student’s reactions to this loss, please feel free to contact your child’s teachers, the school counselors, or the administrative staff. Thank you for your concern and well wishes."
An investigation into Warsaw's death is ongoing.
