Morgan City vehicle pursuit leads to heroin and meth recovery
MORGAN CITY, La. (KLFY) -- Authorities in Morgan City said they seized heroin and meth from an individual after a vehicle pursuit.
Officials said investigators with the Morgan City Police Department Narcotics Division observed a vehicle swerving on the road and conduct an improper turn in the area of Egle Street around 10:41 p.m. on Monday. Authorities said they attempted to initiate a stop, but the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
While the vehicle fled the area, they disregarded stop signs and overtook both lanes of travel. Investigators said they also observed the driver discard a white bag out of the window.
The subject eventually came to a stop near St. Clair Steet, and was identified as Robert Lee Fair, 49, of Paincourtville. Investigators were able to recover the bag thrown out the window during the pursuit, which yielded heroin and methamphetamine.
Officials said Fair admitted the suspected drugs located were his. Fair was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Jail on the following charges:
- Possession of schedule I CDS with intent to distribute (heroin)
- Possession of schedule II CDS with intent to distribute (methamphetamine)
- Aggravated flight from and officer
- Obstruction of justice
- Improper lane usage
- Improper turning
