Calciomercato have stated that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s decision to change his representation is a ‘clear signal’ of his intention to move to the Serie A in the summer.
A few days ago, it emerged that Hojbjerg, who is contracted to Tottenham until 2025, had signed with the agency, USG Italy, represented by Luca Puccinelli (Fabrizio Romano).
CalcioMercato now suggests that on the back of the midfielder’s decision, a move to Italy is a ‘marriage that has to be made’, claiming that the 28-year-old’s decision to sign with Puccinelli is a ‘clear signal’ of his intention to move to Serie A.
The outlet say that Hojbjerg had ‘already decided’ to leave Spurs in January but the North London side ‘did not want to indulge’ his wishes during the transfer window.
The Lilywhites allegedly demanded €35m (£30m) for the player, which proved to be too high for the interested clubs but the report says that their asking price will ‘surely be much lower’ in the summer.
Juventus and Napoli interested in Hojbjerg
CalcioMercato reveal that Juve and Napoli had both shown interest in Hojbjerg in the past and that the midfielder remains on the radar of both clubs ahead of the summer.
However, it is explained that the Bianconeri’s move for the Tottenham man will depend on whether Massimiliano Allegri remains at the club, with the 56-year-old’s future in Turin now in doubt.
The report claims that Napoli’s interest in the Denmark international ‘remains alive’ and adds that this is an avenue that Puccinelli ‘could reopen’ in the coming months.
Finally, the publication asserts that it is now clear that Hojbjerg ‘wants Italy’ and that ‘the time seems to be ripe’ for the former Southampton man to make the move at the end of the season.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham’s asking price is likely to drop considerably, given that Hojbjerg will only have a year left in his contract in June. There will likely be a long queue of clubs lining up for the Dane’s signature.
While Spurs would want to get a bidding war going, the 28-year-old will have a lot of power in choosing his next destination due to his contract situation.
