How to watch the 2024 Oscars online
The 2024 Oscars have arrived. On Sunday, March 10, 2024, the 96th Oscars will crown 2023’s best film work with a lavish ceremony featuring returning host Jimmy Kimmel and some high-wattage musical performers like Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling.
This year, awards season has largely been dominated by one film, “Oppenheimer.” The Christopher Nolan blockbuster about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the “father of the atomic bomb,” debuted in theaters last summer and – along with fellow Best Picture nominee “Barbie” – ruled the box office for weeks. “Oppenheimer,” a three-hour rated-R historical drama, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide and won several top precursor prizes from the industry and critics’ groups alike. Heading into Oscar night, it’s expected that “Oppenheimer” will win multiple awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Nolan (it would be his first), Best Actor for star Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for co-star Robert Downey Jr., Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Score, and Best Sound. Those eight potential wins would make “Oppenheimer” the biggest Best Picture winner since “Slumdog Millionaire.”
But while “Oppenheimer” is expected to dominate, there are other races that remain open – particularly Best Actress. That contest has largely come down to a contest between Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) and Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”). Both actresses have won significant precursor honors, with Stone emerging victoriously at the BAFTA Awards while Gladstone earned the stamp of approval from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
