NBC crew laughs after Trump calls Biden 'hate-filled' just before mocking his stutter

Donald Trump on Saturday chose to describe President Joe Biden's State of the Union address as "angry and hate-filled" seconds before mocking the president's lifelong stutter, prompting slight laughter from a news crew for NBC the following day.

NBC News reporter Jake Traylor appeared on MSNBC's Alex Witt Reports, where he was asked by the host about the former president's weekend rally in Georgia.

Traylor noted that it was "clear" Trump "was very much shifting to his general election message."

"He spoke for almost two hours. And we know Donald Trump's remarks can be erratic, jumping from one idea to the next without a clear transition," he said, adding that there were "fresh new sound bites we got" due to the shifting dynamics of the race.

"Most of them were criticisms of President Biden and also most of them were not substantive policy criticisms; they were personal attacks against President Biden," Traylor said. "We were waiting to hear how he spoke about the State of the Union address and we heard about that."

He then played a clip of Trump calling Biden's speech "hate-filled," just moments before mocking his speech impediment.

"I'm gonna bring the country t-t-t-t-t-together," Trump said mockingly. "I'm gonna bring it togetherrrr."

"So he made fun of his lifelong stutter, a very publicly known thing, and then Trump also characterized Biden's speech as angry and hate-filled," he said. "Alex, I can leave that one there for you."

"Okay," she replied while laughing. "We'll leave it there."
