Bride asks guests to help pay for wedding – but is called ‘actively delusional’ for ‘essentials-only’ baby crowd-funding
FROM new outfits to overnight stays, attending a wedding isn’t a cheap affair.
But one couple has received backlash for asking their guests to go above and beyond for their big day.
A Reddit user revealed that they and other wedding guests were being asked to crowd-fund for the big day and the honeymoon (stock image)[/caption]In the post, an unnamed guest shared the updates ahead of the nuptials.
The Reddit user explained that their acquaintance had gotten engaged during the holiday season and is currently planning the wedding.
However, the couple decided they wanted “an entirely crowdfunded 150-person wedding.”
Altogether, the pair were asking for a total of $18,000, including contributions towards the venue, catering, a photographer, the $100 marriage license, and the $50 officiant fee.
The demands didn’t stop at the day itself however, the couple also asked for donations to their honeymoon as well as airfare for members of the bridal party, dinners, massages, and a house fund.
For context, the original poster explained that the bride calls herself a life coach while her groom says he is an entrepreneur.
The couple found out they were expecting and postponed the wedding but this development didn’t let guests off the hook financially.
“When they got pregnant, they announced it with a full list of requests of ‘only the essentials’ which included crowdfunding for a baby moon and a mocktail recipe book,” the Reddit user said.
“They are still asking for money for a car and house and parental leave from their life coaching grift.”
The poster pointed out that the couple did not need to have a wedding, especially if they are struggling financially and starting a family.
She also shared her irritation over the gifts and experiences the couple were requesting.
“They’re ‘anti-capitalist’ but have an Amazon wishlist with hundreds of mostly junk items on it,” she explained.
She shared a screenshot of a post from the couple to back up her claims.
“This is coming together in a short timeframe so we can use all the help we can get,” the bride explained.
Among the examples listed by the couple, they informed guests that they were crowd-funding for “moving costs to rent a two to three bedroom in Seattle.”
They also added that the contributions would cover the best man’s flights to the United States from Japan and back.
Reddit users shared their thoughts on the situation in the comments section.
“They went from asking a bit much to actively delusional when I read they wanted people to cover the cost of renting a two bedroom apartment in Seattle,” wrote one reader.
“Oh my God, how embarrassing. It always amazes me when people have no shame,” said another person.
“It must be embarrassing to say you assist others to organize their lives while crowdfunding the normal expenses of life and marriage on short notice because of failure to plan,” commented a third Redditor.
