Man accused of shooting 2 Corvallis women, leaving one dead

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting which killed one woman and injured another in Corvallis Saturday evening, authorities say.

Just before 7:30 p.m., Corvallis Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 1900 block of Northwest Highland Drive.

On arrival, they found a woman dead and another woman with serious injuries from an apparent gunshot wound, officials say.

The injured woman was taken to a nearby hospital.

Officers say they were able to confirm the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Jerry Bruce Mitchell Sr., had left the area in his car.

Four and a half hours later, officers tracked down Mitchell in Northern California, arresting him and taking him into custody, authorities say.

No additional information, including the identity of the victims, has been released at this time.
