‘Impressive quirk!’ says driver who finds 2 hidden buttons in 2024 McLaren 750S and symbol that holds clue about founder
A SPORTS car enthusiast has gushed about two hidden buttons inside one of the fastest vehicles on the planet.
In a TikTok, a car expert unveiled two exclusive McLaren “quirky” buttons and explained how they got their unique identity.
“It’s just such a thrill to drive,” the car enthusiast, Doug DeMuro, said in a post for a car auction site (@cars_and_birds) while touring the $300,000 vehicle.
“It’s so absolutely exciting, and it is so fast.”
The 2024 McLaren 750S is a near hypercar, capable of sprinting to 60 mph in under three seconds.
“True to its DNA, it’s the next-level supercar,” McLaren writes on its website about the 2024 version of its vehicle.
“Surpassing the benchmarks for performance, engagement, and purity of response.”
But the DeMuro calls the car’s cabin “quirk city.”
There are two unique buttons that he has never seen on other cars.
The driver said one button can change the roof’s transparency.
Drivers have the option of leaving the roof opaque or transparent with the touch of a ceiling-mounted button.
“It is quite an impressive quirk in this car,” the enthusiast said.
A BIRD?
Another button, placed on the right-hand side of the steering wheel, is a McLaren exclusive.
“There is a button with a kiwi bird on it,” DeMuro explains.
“I am not exaggerating.”
Unless drivers look in the car’s owner’s manual, the button provides no extra context.
However, the button is a feature that dozens of modern cars have employed to optimize driver comfort.
“When you push that button, it pulls up your custom-tailored individual drive modes,” the driver said.
McLaren’s founder, Bruce McLaren, is a New Zealand native.
The Kiwi is the national symbol of the country.
“That button is an homage,” DeMuro added.
