Man jailed for 15 years for sexually assaulting a minor

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Juan Garcia-Pleitez, 41, was sentenced to 15 years in state prison for a criminal sexual act in the first degree. Garcia-Pleitez previously admitted to engaging in sexual conduct with a minor known to him on August 2, 2023.

The sexual assault reportedly occurred in Schenectady. The victim was examined and physical evidence collected was sent to the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center for analysis. Results corroborated with the victim's sexual assault disclosure.

Garcia-Pleitez was also sentenced to 20 years of parole and a 40-year full order of protection was issued for the victim. Upon release from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
