Amazon sets ‘Beast Games’ from MrBeast, the most extravagant reality competition series ever
MrBeast, the most popular creator on YouTube, is going legit.
The producer known for his lavishly expensive stunt, experience, and philanthropic videos is partnering with Amazon MGM Studios to make a reality competition series for Prime Video called “Beast Games.” He’s taking funding from one of the world’s largest corporations to make his already ambitious videos even bigger.
“Beast Games” is described as the largest reality competition series ever, with 1000 competitors and a $5 million grand prize. (The current record-holder is Netflix’s “Squid Game: The Challenge,” which had 456 contestants and a $4.56 million prize.)
“My goal is to make the greatest show possible and prove YouTubers and creators can succeed on other platforms,” MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, said in a statement. “Amazon gave me the creative control I need to try and make it happen. I hope to make the YouTube community proud.”
MrBeast is the most-followed creator on YouTube, with 245 million subscribers as of March 18. His well-produced videos rack up tens of millions of views at a minimum and regularly receive hundreds of millions of views.
Gameplay details were not included in the announcement, but the Prime Video show is described as being based on MrBeast’s YouTube show. If the challenges are anything like what he does on YouTube, they will be stunts like “trying to stop a Lamborghini from getting hit by a train and shot by 10,000 bullets” and “last to take hands off Lamborghini, keeps it.” He famously did his own version of a real-life “Squid Game” in 2022, with a $456,000 prize.
Donaldson has won the Streamy Awards’ Creator of the Year award four years in a row and back-to-back Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for “Favorite Male Creator.” He was named him one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2023. He has raised tens of millions of dollars for environmental charities and has built housing and provided medical support for people all over the world through his Beast Philanthropy organization.
