Trump adds Liz Cheney and whole Jan. 6 committee to his 'throw in jail' list
Donald Trump has spent years demanding the prosecution—or direct imprisonment, without the bother of a trial—of his critics. Lock her up, anyone? This weekend, at a campaign rally in Dayton, Ohio, he added some new names to his list. He called for jailing former Rep. Liz Cheney and the entire Jan. 6 House Select Committee.
He also reiterated his plan to pardon insurrectionist supporters imprisoned for their actions on Jan. 6. Most of those jailed have either been convicted or are awaiting trial on more serious charges of assaulting police officers. The longest sentences were handed down to leaders of the extremist Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who were convicted of seditious conspiracy.
Trump went even further at the Dayton rally by promising to pardon those he referred to as the “January 6 hostages” starting on Day One of his administration. That’s also the day Trump previously promised he would be a “dictator.”
