City in Oregon named among top 10 family-friendly travel destinations in US

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – With spring and summer travel plans in swing, Yelp compiled a list of the top family-friendly travel destinations in the United States in 2024, with one city in Oregon making the top 10 list.

The number one family-friendly travel destination is Fredericksburg, Texas, according to Yelp – citing the Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten, Pioneer Museum, and sprawling wildflowers at Wildseed Farms.

Napa, Calif., Charlottesville, Va., Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Breckenridge, Colo. round out the top five ranked cities.

Salem, Ore. was ranked number 10 of the top family-friendly destinations in the US, according to Yelp, thanks to the capital city's lush parks, museums, and attractions.

Yelp pointed to Salem's Riverfront Park, which is home to the Salem Rotary Amphitheater, and Salem's Riverfront Carousel, along with the Gilbert House Children's Museum, the Enchanted Forest theme park just south of the city, and the Word of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro -- highlighting the restaurant's crème brulé French toast.

Yelp determined the top family-friendly destinations by comparing searches for “good for kids” in 2021 compared to 2023 in the U.S. Researchers also analyzed data in cities with significant increases in "family-friendly" searches.
