The ED had launched a money laundering probe against Karti and seven others in May 2022 on the basis of an FIR registered by the CBI in May 2022. The CBI had alleged that Karti received an "illegal gratification of ₹50 lakh to illegally facilitate visas for 263 Chinese nationals" to complete a power project.
