Man accused of murder in Parkrose Heights apartment complex shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Months after a woman was murdered in the Parkrose Heights neighborhood, authorities have arrested the man investigators believe shot her.

Richard David Simms, Jr., 30, is suspected of shooting 40-year-old Nicole Lashawn Davis outside an apartment complex on the afternoon of Nov. 22.

When police arrived at 11100 NE Weidler Street, they found Davis dead at the scene. Simms was nowhere in sight, and officials did not make any arrests.

An investigation led officers to arrest Simms on March 19. He now faces charges of second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a firearm as a felon.
