The Hudson Valley candy shop with celebrity owners
RHINEBECK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On today's episode of "Things I didn't know about this region," I just found out there's a candy shop in the Hudson Valley that's owned by some pretty famous celebrities. If you know anything about the area, you'll know that I'm talking about Samuel's Sweet Shop in Rhinebeck.
The candy store is owned by Paul and Julie Rudd, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and his wife Hilarie Burton, and Andy Ostroy, the husband of late actress Adrienne Shelly. The owners, who all live in Rhinebeck or around the Dutchess County area at least part of the time, took over the shop after owner Ira Gutner suddenly passed away in 2014.
Gutner opened Samuel’s of Rhinebeck in 1994. Manager and partner John Traver started working at the shop at 15 years old and continues to run the shop today.
With over 55.5K followers on Instagram, this is one of the most popular and well-known candy shops in New York. I mean, it probably has the most famous owners.
Rudd, Morgan, and Burton have all been on various talk shows speaking about the candy store including "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," "CBS This Morning," "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," "Late Night with Seth Meyers," and "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."
"Paul and I literally have nothing to do with it other than eating the candy," Morgan joked about the shop on Jimmy Fallon. "My kid loves it. Paul's kids love it."
Paul Rudd is best known for his work as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Morgan is best known for playing Negan in "The Walking Dead" series. Burton is best known for her work on "One Tree Hill" and Ostroy is a writer, filmmaker, producer, and podcaster.
Samuel's Sweet Shop sells candy, chocolate, coffee, tea, baked goods, store merchandise, and more. If you can't visit the shop in person, Samuel's also ships candy and chocolates nationwide. The online store features a variety of candy samplers including Paul's, Jeffrey's, and Hilarie's Favorites.
Samuel's Sweet Shop is located at 42 East Market Street in Rhinebeck. I definitely need to take a trip down there one day.
