PG Classics - Gent-Wevelgem - G W Bush Edition
"One of my proudest moments is I didn't sell my soul for the sake of popularity."
George W. Bush explaining why he still rides a Trek.
The Course
Me - Welcome Mr President. Thanks for dropping by. Now my first question to you is, what can you tell us about the parcours.
George W - Well firstly. Call me George W. No need for that president stuff. Thirdly. I love the pros. As for the course, well you can’t do anything but love watching riding over the pebbles in Holland in spring can you.
Me - Quite. Now George W. This race was known for a long while as a likely reduced bunch finish but it rarely happens anymore. Especially if the weathers bad and here’s hoping it is! There’s enough climbing and enough attacking riders to make it difficult to all come back together but as you know Sir, you can never say never.
George W - I can say never. Never. See.
The Favourites
Me - So you can. Have you got anyone that you’ve picked from the list I sent you that stands out as a likely winner?
George W - Well I’m hoping it’s not finalised. There’s only two American flags showing and always liked to have at least four behind me at press conferences and the like.
Me - You’re correct to say it’s not finalised George W. Maybe Matteo will get a chance after his ride at E3?
George W - Matteo?
Me - Jorgensen.
George W - He’s an American with that name?
Me - Certainly is. He looks a better bet than Magnus to me.
George W - Magnus?
Me - Magnus Sheffield.
George W - Who’s the other American?
Me - Riley Sheehan.
George W - Riley’s a girls name isn’t it?
Me - Search me.
George W - Where’s Lance? That’s a proper name.
Me - Um. Retired Sir. Podcasting in Texas I believe.
George W - I’m from Texas and I’ve never heard of Podcasting. Where’s that? Some new suburb of Austin?
Me - So do you have a pick to win the race?
George W - Well if I’m shoved in to a corner and pushed, then I’ll go for the guy that crosses the line first.
Me - Well thank you for your time Mr President.
George W - I said call me George W and thanks for not asking about Iraq.
Here’s your Startlist.
The Rules
In this game, only the race results matter. You're not committed to keeping the same riders throughout the series, you make fresh picks before every race. Our overall competition is just the sum of individual race scores. You're eligible for the overall even if you miss some races.
Pick 4 riders for the upcoming race. The order of your picks doesn't matter. All of your riders can score.
Riders score points down to 10th place. Less popular riders score more points than heavily-picked favourites. See below for scoring details.
The strict entry deadline is the official start time of the race, the neutralized roll-out or Départ Fictif. Be warned - if your post is timestamped one minute late your entry won't count! So do remember that there's no disadvantage to getting an entry in early, even the day before, because you may always change your picks up until the deadline. Feel free to rethink your picks when it emerges which riders are more or less popular with other players. If you make changes, post your revised 4 picks in a reply to your original post.
The Scoring
The last 3 races will be secret entry between the top contenders… To avoid defensive picking.
When we say top contenders we leave the number open because who knows how many will be within striking distance...
We will notify you by email if we need you to do a secret entry.
