1 dead following crash involving pedestrian, roadways shut down

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A person died, and roadways were shut down early Saturday due to a crash involving a pedestrian, according to first responders.

The Texas Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert notifying drivers that all lanes of northbound I-35 near 51st Street were closed due to a crash.

Austin Police and Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the crash in the 4900 block of North I-35.

APD said northbound traffic was being diverted south of Barbara Jordan Boulevard and told drivers to expect delays.

ATCEMS said medics received a “deceased, on-scene pronouncement of an adult” as a result of the collision.

It is unknown if the driver remained at the scene following the crash.
