Bagel Works Bel Air reopens after truck crashes into store on Friday

0

Bagel Works Bel Air reopened Saturday morning after a vehicle crashed into the store’s front door on Friday.

Around 11 a.m. Friday, the Bel Air fire and police units responded to Bagel Works Bel Air and found an Chevrolet pickup truck smashed through the front doors of the restaurant.

The driver of the pick-up truck David Howe, 46, of Aberdeen, was seated outside the restaurant when officers arrived.

Howe was leaving the restaurant when the truck accidentally went forward struck a curb and hit the building, according to a Bel Air Police social media post.

The fire company reported only minor injuries to Howe. No one inside the restaurant or vehicle needed hospital treatment, according to the fire company.

Bagel Works Bel Air was temporarily closed Friday for repairs. The front windows were shattered and parts of the block wall dislodged. Broken glass and debris from the wall were found in the dining room.

Harford County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permitting and the Town of Bel Air Department of Public Works evaluated the damage and determined the building is structurally sound, according to the police Facebook post.

“It’s an absolute miracle that everyone walked away unscathed, shaken but intact,” the restaurant said in a Facebook post. “Shout out to Stephen Kline at Public Works for responding so fast giving us the go ahead to begin fixing this mess & Rainbow International for doing what they do best. With that being said we will open tomorrow at 7 a.m.”

A representative of the restaurant said Saturday morning that the store reopened at 7 a.m.
