'Spring Cleanup' starts soon in Manhattan

0

MANHATTAN (KSNT) - The City of Manhattan will hold a citywide cleanup effort at the start of next month to collect debris from local homeowners.

The announcement was made in the March 22 edition of the city's newsletter for the annual Spring Cleanup work. This will start on Monday, April 1 and end on Friday, April 5.

Work crews will move through each of the city's neighborhoods during the cleanup project to primarily focus on picking up properly bagged and stacked yard waste, tree limbs and branches. Trash will not be collected during this time.

The City of Manhattan says participating trash providers such as Average Joe's, B&L, Howie's, Joe Mallon and Pick Pink will be picking up other trash and debris during their normal routes. This will only be done for their respective customers. Trash and debris must be placed next to the location of regular trash pickup on the day of regular service. Those who don't have a contract for refuse services with one of the participating contractors must find alternative means to dispose of their trash.

Items which will not be collected during the Spring Cleanup effort include:

  • Major household appliances
  • Tires
  • Batteries
  • Concrete/rock rubble
  • Construction/demolition debris
  • Household hazardous waste such as paint, thinners, lubricants, herbicides/insecticides
