I finally understand why people settle after a horrible date – his behavior over the bill was stunning, I’m miserable
FROM awkward silences to the dance over paying the check, first dates can be awkward.
One woman’s dinner date turned into her funding a stranger’s meal prep for the week.
In her video, Vanessa Cancio (@vanecancio) recalled the awkward encounter she had on a late-night dinner date.
The TikToker explained that she and the unnamed man had been enjoying drinks at a bar when he decided to order food towards the end of the night.
Since Vanessa wasn’t particularly hungry, she only ordered an appetizer and ate half of it.
Her date, on the other hand, had eyes bigger than his stomach when he ordered a whole chicken along with his appetizers.
When the full meal arrived, Vanessa noticed that her date barely touched it.
She described feeling so bored as she waited for the check that she began eavesdropping on a conversation from the table next to her.
“I finally understand why people settle because this is so horrible and miserable,” she told her audience.
When the check finally arrived, Vanessa waited for her date to offer to pay.
After he made no move for his wallet she decided to take out her credit card, assuming that he wanted to split the cost of the food.
However, her date responded by asking her if she was sure she wanted to cover the whole check by herself.
She refrained from pointing out that her date had ordered a lot more food than her.
The pair eventually decided to split the check but not before Vanessa’s date got his entire chicken to-go.
As well as the full meal, he decided to take home the leftovers from their appetizers too.
She joked with her followers that she had basically paid for her date’s lunch and dinner for the next day.
Vanessa also shared that her date chose a bar that was convenient for him, leaving her with another expense as she ordered a pricey Uber home.
She explained that she would’ve been happy to split the check had they ordered an equal amount of food.
However, since her date insisted on eating despite her not being hungry she said she felt that she should’ve covered the cost of the dinner.
Vanessa joked that the experience was going to be her “retirement from the dating world.”
Her followers shared their thoughts on the situation in the comments section.
“I’m old-fashioned, if a man asks me out on a date, he pays. Period,” wrote one viewer.
“Asking YOU to dinner in his neighborhood and then having you go Dutch? Ick,” said another TikTok user.
“Pro tip: Keep some cash on you so you can put down $20 for what you actually ate,” suggested a third person.
