The Coasters 2-1 Oxford City
The Coasters returned to winning ways at home this weekend at a windy yet rainy Mill Farm.
The first chance of the half came to Danny Ormerod as the Coasters piled on early pressure, Ormerod was unfortunate not to score with his chance however it was a sign of things to come.
In the 5th minute Danny Whitehead played a good ball through to Joe Westley who couldn’t latch onto the through ball from Whitehead. Consistent pressure led to multiple shots at the Oxford goal however none troubled Tom Watson.
More pressure came from the home side which led to Corners in quick succession, but the delivery from Max Conway could not find anyone in Fylde colours and once again chances were wasted from the Coasters
In the 12th minute Nick Haughton did incredibly well to tackle Tafari Moore who was striding towards goal before Haughton took the ball off him in a last ditch tackle which prevented a sure goal.
However in the 14th minute Oxford top scorer Josh Parker opened the scoring with a well worked solo goal which saw him take the ball past Sam Graham and fire past Theo Richardson in the Fylde goal. The goal was arguably against the run of play and an Oxford player was booked in the build up.
Fylde continued their pressure especially down the right hand side with Connor Barrett enjoying great runs coming to no success.
In the 24th minute Oxford were forced into a change with Jacob Roddy coming off for Lewis Doyle.
Best chance for the Coasters came in the 34th minute when Nick Haughton drove at the Oxford defence but unfortunately his shot flashed wide of the left post.
Fyldes chances continued on the 36th minute, when good work from Joe Westley forced the Oxford defence to be at their best to clear the ball and prevent Jon Ustabasi from a tap-in.
A shocking challenge from an Oxford player lucky to only see a yellow card in the 37th minute.
Another great chance for Fylde came on the 40th minute when Ethan Mitchell released Danny Ormerod who once again saw his shot flash past the left post.
The success continued down the Coasters right hand side creating more and more opportunities with Nick Haughton once again being denied by the Oxford keeper.
Number 12 Mitchell Roberts booked in the 44th minute.
Great work from Ustabasi leads to a chance for Mitchell who can’t get a shot off.
Oxford keeper goes down under the slightest touch from Danny Ormerod which earns his side a Free Kick.
First corner of the second half comes to the Coasters which once again ends up in Watson’s hands.
2nd sub off the afternoon for Oxford with Latrell Humphrey Ewers comes off for Harry Birtwistle.
With the weather turning for the worse, both teams were giving it their all in searching for another goal, enjoying spells of possession with no keepers in either goal being tested.
Fyldes pressure finally paid off with Joe Westley expertly finishing past Watson after a great ball from Nick Haughton. Levelling the game in the 60th minute.
Ethan Mitchell booked on the 62nd minute after reacting to a foul on him.
Theo once again with a great save on the the 66th minute to deny Tafari Moore after some great play from Josh Parker and some great defensive work from Harry Davis.
First sub for Fylde with Bryce Hosannah coming on for Danny Ormerod.
Harry Birtwistle booked for time wasting in the 70th minute.
Good work from Mitchell who in turn feeds Bryce Hosannah who goes round his man and unfortunately sees his cross cleared.
A free Kick from Nick Haughton finds the top corner and turns the game on its head, 2-1 to the Coasters with just over 10 minutes to go. The Coasters’ main man was involved with both goals in turning the game in the Coasters’ favour.
The 2nd sub of the afternoon for the Coasters saw Ash Hunter come on for Jon Ustabasi in the 83rd minute.
Josh Ashby was booked in the 83rd minute for a late foul on Danny Whitehead.
Haughton once again being the main man firing wide of Watson’s goal after great work from Joe Westley.
Captain Harry Davis was replaced by Adam Long in the 89th minute.
Great ball from Bryce once again unlucky not to find Ash Hunter in injury time with the Coasters pushing for a 3rd.
Great scenes at full-time as the Coasters get back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Oxford City.
