I’m a huge scratch card fan and finally won a whopping £80k – it’s about time, but I went straight back in to play again
A WOMAN who scooped £80,000 on a scratch card has joked that it was “about time” she won something after years of avoiding lotto numbers for scratchies.
The mammoth win came on a crossword-style scratch card that cost £8 – which she dubs her favourite way of playing the lottery.
A woman scooped a whopping £80,000 scratch card jackpot and plans to spoil her five siblings with the cash[/caption]The objective of a crossword scratchie is to uncover words within this grid by scratching off the covering material, similar to solving a crossword puzzle.
Typically, the player wins a prize if they uncover a certain number of words or meet specific criteria outlined on the card, such as completing a row or column.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, said her first reaction to seeing the huge number was, “’bout time!”
“I don’t play the numbers, I just like to play scratch-offs,” she added when collecting her winnings in February.
“When she wins, she goes right back to the store,” one of her sisters said.
The sister accompanied the woman to claim her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, US.
She regularly buys scratch cards and has done so for a number of years now.
She plans to spend her winnings “blessing her sisters and brothers” and some new furniture for her house.
In addition to the sister who accompanied her, she has four other siblings living across The States.
And even though she has won big, the woman doesn’t plan to stop buying scratch cards and has already bought more with her cash prize.
Similarly, a stay-at-home mum scooped an eye-watering £1.1 million lottery jackpot earlier this month.
The mum, who chose to remain anonymous, described the situation as “absolutely wackadoodle”.
“The word ‘lucky’ took on a whole new meaning,” she said.
And it’s even more crazy considering she scooped the fortune using a very basic number selection method – her childrens’ birthdays.
People often believe that using meaningful dates, such as birthdays, can increase their chances of winning the lottery because they feel a connection to those numbers.
