'People' hanging from poles at Cajun Field are not people

0

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- If you see what you think are people hanging from poles near Cajun Field, it's not what you think.

Beginning Saturday, Lafayette Utilities System will be suspending life-sized mannequins, in uniform, on the poles at Cajun Field in preparation for the Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo on Saturday, April 6, officials said.

The Hurtman Rescue competition simulates a lineworker rescuing a fellow worker who has become injured while working on the pole. The competitors must gear up with all of their climbing tools on and ascend the pole, secure the life-sized mannequin, and safely lower him down from the pole, according to Micah Inglis, Lafayette Utilities System spokesperson.

"It is essential for residents to understand that these mannequins are not real people and do not represent any actual emergency or danger," Inglis said. "The placement of these figures is solely for the Rodeo’s training and competition purposes, and there is no cause for alarm."
