Amsterdam man sentenced to 8 years for drug trafficking
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Amsterdam man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. Deshon Thomas, 40, must now serve eight years in state prison as well as a two year term of post-release supervision.
The conviction stems from an investigation into the trafficking of narcotics in Amsterdam that was conducted by Amsterdam Police, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team. Thomas was arrested back in June of 2023.
"Through coordinated initiatives and persistent vigilance, our law enforcement partners have displayed exemplary dedication in addressing the scourge of drug trafficking that threatens the safety and well-being of our citizens. Their tireless efforts have resulted in significant strides towards disrupting criminal networks, dismantling illicit operations, and holding perpetrators accountable under the law." stated Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond.
