NY Presidential Primary on Tuesday
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)--- New York voters who are registered in either the Republican or Democratic Party can cast their ballots in Tuesday’s presidential primary.
"Republicans will have one ballot and Democrats will have another ballot," explained Kathleen McGrath, Director of Public Information for the New York State Board of Elections. "Four Republican candidates qualify to be on the Republican ballot and that is Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, Nikki Haley, and Chris Christie. And on the Democratic ballot three candidates qualify to be on the ballot, and that’s President Biden, Dean Phillips, and Marianne Williamson."
McGrath said Democrats will also vote for delegates to send to the Democratic National Convention. Those delegates vary by congressional district. The Republicans will choose their delegates after the primary.
New York’s eight days of early voting ended on Saturday. The Board of Elections estimates just over 100,000 New Yorkers took advantage of it. This doesn’t include absentee or early vote by mail ballots.
"If you have requested an absentee or early vote by mail ballot, you want to make sure you have that post marked by the end of tomorrow, or you can hand deliver it to a poll cite in your county tomorrow during the day as well," said McGrath.
Before heading out the door, Erica Smitka with the League of Women Voters, said it’s important to double check your polling location since redistricting may have changed it.
"You may not be voting at what you previously considered your regular polling place," Smitka said. "Make sure to check out the state board of elections website or your local county board elections website to find out where your polling place is and to make sure you get to the right place tomorrow."
The polls open at 6am and close at 9pm.
