Businesses could become easy victims during eclipse
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Dr. Susan McCartney, the director of Buffalo State University's Small Business Development Center, joined us on Wake Up! Tuesday morning with some helpful advice ahead of the eclipse.
Dr. McCartney says employers and business owners need to be aware of the potential for devious behavior during the event itself. People not paying attention could become victims, and according to her, every business needs to have a plan.
One thing to be aware of is technology. Dr. McCartney encouraged businesses to shut computers down during the event, so that no one has access to sensitive information while you're away. The physical space of a business should be monitored, too, she said. With everyone looking up at the sky, something bad could easily happen with no one on watch, such as a restaurant patron running outside and failing to return to pay for their food.
On the positive side of things, Dr. McCartney told us she thinks employers should allow workers the opportunity to see this rare event. Obviously though, some businesses can't let people walk around completely unsupervised. In response to that, retailers, for instance, could briefly close for half an hour, Dr. McCartney suggests.
Here more of what she shared with us in the video above.
