Jean-Paul Vignon dead – Shrek and 500 Days of Summer Star dies aged 89 after battle with liver cancer
SHREK and 500 Days of Summer star Jean-Paul Vignon has died at the age of 89.
The French vocalist and actor passed away in following a battle with liver cancer.
The news was announced by his family on Wednesday, who confirmed Vignon has died on March 22 in Beverley Hills.
Vignon began his career in New York when he opened for stand-up comedian Woody Allen in 1963.
He would then go on to enjoy a successful eight-decade long acting career.
The US actor was best known for voicing one of the Merry Men in Shrek and narrating the romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer.
Among his other acting credits, Vignon also appeared as Andre in Gilmore Girls and as Monsieur Lazare in Days of Our Lives.
Alongside his acting work, however, Vignon was also a successful singer.
After signing with Columbia Records, he released his first album in the US, Because I Love You, in 1964.
In a 1994, the Los Angeles Times wrote a profile on Vignon, claiming he’d “fulfilled the American image of the romantic, singing Frenchman”
But unlike other renowned Frennchman, Vignon was able to “sing fast and passionate or gentle and slow.”
