20-degree temp drop prompts weather whiplash around Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Portland's near record high temperatures Tuesday fall to much cooler conditions Wednesday thanks to a powerful spring front.
Early morning rain showers will fade to scattered showers Wednesday afternoon, but the front will leave behind cooler conditions. Afternoon highs will sit nearly 20-25 degrees cooler around Portland Wednesday. Clouds will be widespread as a few lingering showers take Portland through the rest of the week.
Most of the rain will happen before sunrise, but a few additional showers could add to the rain gauge Wednesday. The rain shower potential continues for western Oregon and Washington through the end of the week and into the weekend.
Cooler and wetter conditions will help pull snow elevations down to nearly 1,500 feet by the end of the week. That's where additional snow accumulation is expected for Oregon's ski resorts.
Snow accumulation will likely continue through the weekend. This early spring snow will continue to keep base levels healthy later into the season. This latest stint of winter-like conditions will remain through the start of next week.
Afternoon highs are expected to sit below average through the end of the week. Some weather models are trending warmer by the middle of next week.
