This countdown is presented in terms of physical screen time, meaning any time an actor actually appears on screen or can be heard off screen. Moments involving non-visible or audible scene presence are not factored in. All 440 of this category’s nominated performances were successfully counted, including those of 15 triple and eight quadruple contenders.
All but three of the entrants on this list contended prior to the beginning of the 21st century, with the oldest and newest examples being separated by 86 years. The overall screen time average for nominees in this category is 30 minutes and 46 seconds, which is six minutes higher than the supporting actress mean.
