‘Lawyer shoots dead son’s ex-wife and new husband during child custody deposition’
An attorney allegedly shot his son’s ex-wife and her new husband dead at a law office in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then turned the gun on himself.
An active shooter situation was reported around 10am on Monday inside the Prince Law Group office in the Summerlin area, said the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
The victims were identified as a man and a woman.
‘We believe he took his own life,’ Sheriff Kevin McMahill said of the shooter.
Multiple law enforcement sources identified the gunman as a lawyer, Joe Houston, KTNV reported. The victims were Houston’s former daughter-in-law, Ashley Prince, and her new husband Dennis Prince, who is also an attorney, the sources said.
Houston was representing his son Dylan Houston, who is also a lawyer, in child custody proceedings with Ashley, who was being represented by her new husband, according to the sources.
Ashley and Dylan reportedly had two children together, and Ashley and Dylan had one child together recently.
The shooting occurred during a deposition in the child custody case, police told The New York Times.
A few minutes into the beginning of the deposition, the gunman ‘stood up and began opening fire’ at the man and woman across the table from him, police Lt Jason Johansson said on Monday evening.
‘It appears our two victims are were the very specific targets,’ said Johansson, adding that the gunman ‘shooed’ away another individual in the room.
‘We believe we have a good idea of what the motive is right now.’
The shooting broke out on the fifth floor of a six-story building at 10801 West Charleston Boulevard.
There was no threat to the community following the shooting.
Still, hundreds of people in the building were evacuated.
Police inspected Joe’s vehicle, McMahill said.
A motive for the crime has not yet been disclosed.
