I have a puppy but my house doesn’t stink – my routine includes weird sleeping arrangements but it works

A PET-OWNER has shared why their home doesn’t stink despite having an animal in the house.

They owed their fresh-smelling home to a special sleeping arrangement with the dog.

Redditor _enigma_ posed the question, asking for tips for a fresher-smelling space on the social media platform.

“Anyone worked out the best way to stop your house smelling of dog?” the Redditor asked.

“I know our senses adapt and already has, but I really don’t like the idea our house might stink of dog,” _enigma_ wrote.

“So any tips or advise on methods anyone has tried that reduces this?

“I probably need to vacuum more that once a week and I Febreeze our living room (the pet-safe stuff) regularly, and wash his bedding and crate cover every couple of weeks when I can tell there’s a hum.

“Anything else? Any way of neutralizing the smell any saliva that’s going to be in any carpet for example?”

SMELLING FRESH

Several Redditors weighed in with their own advice to keeping dog smells at bay.

“I must be weird, I like how my puppy smells lol,” one wrote.

“My house doesn’t stink like her, though. Good quality furnace filters help, I use 3M allergy reduction ones, plus a Honeywell portable HEPA filter can help.

“She’s groomed regularly.”

The Redditor specified combing, frequently cleaning, and brushing the four-legged friend’s teeth.

“Her bed is actually a toddler bed — again, I’m weird lol,” the Redditor continued.

“But this works really well because it has a water-proof sheets, fitted sheets, and blankets that I wash about every 10 days.

“Robot vacuum every other day, wash floors in diluted vinegar once a week, wash floor mats every two weeks.

“She’s also not allowed on the furniture.”

The dog-owner specified avoiding overwhelming smells to mask any odors.

This included products that are advertised as “all-natural” — such as oil diffusing.

“I don’t like strong scents and I worry things like Glade plug-ins or essential oil diffusers will aggravate the cats and dog — and me,” the Redditor said.

“Plus I find it just covers things up rather than eliminates a smell.”

“Baking soda is a great deodorizer, though.

“For your carpet, I would look into a carpet cleaner [and] washer, like those Little Green ones.”
