New Mexican restaurant opens in Rensselaer

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Al Punto Picante Mexican Restaurant has opened its doors at 1204 Washington Avenue in Rensselaer. The restaurant had its official grand opening on Tuesday at 11 a.m., according to Rensselaer Mayor Mike Stammel.

Al Punto Picante is located in the former Cafe Twelve 04 space, which closed at the end of October. At that time, owner Chris Phelan said he was closing the cafe because he couldn't "compete with big businesses and drive-thru windows."

"Supporting local businesses like Al Punto Picante is more than just enjoying delicious meals— it's about fostering a thriving community," said Stammel. "By patronizing our neighborhood eateries, we not only savor fantastic cuisine but also contribute to the growth and vitality of our city."
