Sodiq Yusuff not surprised by UFC 300 underdog status against Diego Lopes

LAS VEGAS – Sodiq Yusuff isn’t a big underdog against Diego Lopes, but he still might be getting overlooked – even if he thinks their fight isn’t.

Lopes (23-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is just a slight favorite against Yusuff (13-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in their featherweight fight on the prelims Saturday at UFC 300 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). But it might not even matter what the number is as far as Yusuff is concerned.

“I’m not going to say I’m surprised because the oddsmakers are the oddsmakers. It is what it is,” Yusuff said at Wednesday’s media day ahead of the card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “I’ve been an underdog before, and every time I’ve been an underdog, I’ve been able to shine bright.

“… He’s a fan favorite, and because of the way I fight, I’ve never had a fight that you could skip before. I don’t think our fight is being overlooked. It’s just, there’s a hundred fights – every fight on this card is a barnburner. I think we’re getting the equal respect that we deserve.”
