ALL the preparations are done, and the horses are on their way to Aintree. Now all that is left to do is for you to pick the winner of the 2024 Grand National.
This is where I come in and give you a breakdown of all 34 runners of the Grand National.
From the pros and cons to their jockey, all will be revealed along with my final selections at the end.
2024 Grand National Guide
Now it’s time to see who best fits the bill as the winner of the 2024 Grand National.
- Name: (1) Noble Yeats
- Jockey: Harry Cobden
- Trainer: Emmet Mullins
- Odds: 20/1
- Weight: 11st 12lb
- Age: 9
A shock winner of the Grand National at 50/1 back in 2022, Noble Yeats was the first 7yo to win the Grand National in over 80 years. Well fancied to go back to back in last years running but could only manage 4th. Carries top weight, so it is easy to see younger legs getting the better of him. But not without an each way chance.
- Pros: A former winner of the Grand National. Still only a 9yo
- Cons: High in the handicap. Could only manage 4th off 1lb higher last year.
- Verdict: Small each way chance for this former winner.

- Name: (2) Nassalam
- Jockey: Caoilin Quinn
- Trainer: Gary Moore
- Odds: 20/1
- Weight: 11st 8lb
- Age: 7
Nassalam put in a devastating performance when taking the Welsh Grand National back in December on heavy ground, and he could be getting his ground this weekend.
The downside to winning a Welsh National by 34 lengths is that the handicapper has hammered him in the weights. But, with the rain not looking to stop anytime soon this young improving stayer could well take his weight to Grand National glory.
He has the profile of a horse where you can see punters latching onto the more rain falls.
- Pros: Young improving stayers. Will relish conditions.
- Cons: High in the weights.
- Verdict: A dark horse, who can out run his odds
- Name: (3) Coko Beach
- Jockey: Jordan Gainford
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 40/1
- Weight: 11st 8lb
- Age: 9
There is nothing better than seeing a grey out in front soaring over the Grand National fences, and that is what you are going to get here. But how long will it last is the question.
Coko Beach brings bags of handicap experience here and looked to have a new lease of life when winning a Punchestown Cross Country race, so there is a chance that he will bring you on a thrilling ride for a lot of the National. But, when the race is hotting up, it’s easy to see the weight getting the better of him.
- Pros: Has a lot of big field handicap experience. A good jumper who should take to the National fences.
- Cons: High in the weights. We know how good he is.
- Verdict: Solid performer, but shouldn’t be good enough.
Click here to bet on Coko Beach
- Name: (4) Capodanno
- Jockey: Keith Donoghue
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 33/1
- Weight: 11st 6lb
- Age: 8
A solid yardstick, but if I will find it hard to see him get around let alone win. Granted he has been in good form for this season with a 23L 3rd to Galopin Des Champs in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown, and followed that up with a win in the Cotswold Chase and a fine 4th in the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival.
But, with that said, his jumping around the Grand National course last year was not for the faint hearted. And for that reason he is easily overlooked.
- Pros: Trained by Willie Mullins
- Cons: Had a terrible experience in last year’s race. Does not jump well.
- Verdict: Best to avoid.
Click here to bet on Capodanno
- Name: (5) I Am Maximus
- Jockey: Paul Townend
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 8/1
- Weight: 11st 6lb
- Age: 8
Quirky but hugely talented when he wants to be as shown when taking the 2023 Irish Grand National last season, I Am Maximus is a big player here. He started off the season with a Grade 1 Novice Chase win on the final day in which he could run in novice chases, and finished his prep for the National with a 14 length win in the BobbyJo Chase at Fairyhouse.
If he can translate his Fairyhouse form to Aintree, then he has a massive chase, but that’s a big if!
- Pros: Hugely talented, and still improving.
- Cons: All his best form is at Fairyhouse. Can be a very tricky ride, and has enough weight.
- Verdict: A huge talent, but needs a lot to go right for him to win.

- Name: (6) Minella Indo
- Jockey: Rachael Blackmore
- Trainer: Henry de Bromhead
- Odds: 20/1
- Weight: 11st 6lb
- Age: 11
Minella Indo will always go down as a great Gold Cup winner, but does he still have it in the tank to win a Grand National? 11st 5lb will not make life easy on the former Gold Cup winner, but he comes in here a fresh horse after the abandonment of the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, where he was installed as favourite.
That race was famously used by Tiger Roll as his prep race before the Grand National, and it would not be the biggest shock in the world if the class of Minella Indo took him deep into this year’s Grand National.
- Pros: Former Gold Cup winner. Comes here fresh, and still retains a lot of his old ability.
- Cons: Age is not on his side.
- Verdict: A win would blow the roof off Aintree, but I think the best you can hope for is a place.
Click here to bet on Minella Indo
- Name: (7) Corach Rambler
- Jockey: Dereck Fox
- Trainer: Lucinda Russell
- Odds: 5/1
- Weight: 11st 6lb
- Age: 10
The defending champion comes in here on the back of a career best when finishing 3rd in the Cheltenham Gold Cup behind Gerri Colombe and Galopin Des Champs. But he may have left his chances of a back to back win on the Cheltenham Hill.
It goes without saying that he needs to top last year’s performance to win here, but it’s not the weight that he has to carry that will stop him from doing that, it’s the ground. It seems like all it has done is rain in 2024, and the more it rains, the more it will hinder Corach Ramblers chances of emulating the likes of Red Rum and Tiger Roll.
- Pros: A hugely impressive winner last season. Seems to have improved this season.
- Cons: Had a hard race in the Gold Cup. Heavy ground will not be in his favour.
Click here to bet on Corach Rambler
- Name: (8) Janidil
- Jockey: Jody McGarvey
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 100/1
- Weight: 11st 6lb
- Age: 10
A decent horse in his own right, but miles off what it will take to win a Grand National carrying 11st 5lb.
Not only would the whole of Aintree be in shock if Janidil crossed the line first, but so would his owner J.P McManus.
- Pros: Trained by Willie Mullins
- Cons: To height in the weights. Prone to jumping mistakes.
- Verdict: Shouldn’t be anywhere near good enough to win. Avoid.
- Name: (9) Stattler
- Jockey: Partick Mullins
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 50/1
- Weight: 11st 5lb
- Age: 9
Another Willie Mullins runner who you would be shocked if he was to win. Only a 9yo, but seems to have been around forever. Has back form as early as last season that would give him a chance, but he has shown very little this season. Ground is also a worry.
- Pros: Has some good back form.
- Cons: The predicted ground would be a worry. Has shown little this season.
- Name: (10) Mahler Mission
- Jockey: Ben Harvey
- Trainer: John McConnell
- Odds: 16/1
- Weight: 11st 5lb
- Age: 8
Very much a forgotten horse coming in here. Two runs this season has seen him finish second in a Listed Chase, and in the Coral Trophy (formally The Hennessy Gold Cup).
His trainer John McConnell has had a horrible season with horses out of form, but if he can get Mahler Mission health, then he would pose a huge threat to all.
- Pros: Improving type with form in top handicaps.
- Cons: Trainers form.
- Verdict: If his trainer was in better form he would be a strong each way selection. But if all is A1 on the day then he will put up a strong showing.
Click here to bet on Mahler Mission
- Name: (11) Delta Work
- Jockey: Jack Kennedy
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 25/1
- Weight: 11st 4lb
- Age: 11
No matter what Delta Work has done in his illustrious career, he will be forever known as the horse that ruined Tiger Rolls retirement party.
But even at the ripe old age of 11, he is not without a chance. Just like when he beat Tiger Roll at Cheltenham, the softer the ground the better his chances become. But based on what we have seen this season, it might be somewhat of a leap of faith to put your trust in that he still wants it as much as he used to, but if he does, he is on a very tempting mark.
- Pros: Will love the ground. On a tempting mark.
- Cons: Now 11yo. Has struggled this season.
- Verdict: Hard to know what Delta Work will show up, but if it’s an on form Delta Work, he could spring a surprise.
Click here to bet on Delta Work
- Name: (12) Foxy Jacks
- Jockey: Gavin Brouder
- Trainer: Mouse Morris
- Odds: 66/1
- Weight: 11st 4lb
- Age: 10
Produced a career best in the Cross Country handicap at the Cheltenham November meeting, but would need to perform a miracle to win this.
- Pros: Good jumper who should take to the fences.
- Cons: Lacks the class.
- Verdict: Very much out of his depth. Avoid.
Click here to bet on Foxy Jacks
- Name: (13) Galvin
- Jockey: Sam Ewing
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 33/1
- Weight: 11st 2lb
- Age: 10
It’s a real shame that the forecast ground has gone against Galvin because the handicapper has dropped him 11lb from what he ran off in last year’s race where he departed at the first.
A former Grand 1 chase winner when lowering the colours of the future Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard, would have had a lot going for him, but his chances look gone with the way the ground will be.
- Pros: 11lb lower than last season. Capable of top class form.
- Cons: Heavy ground is a massive issue.
- Name: (14) Farouk D’alene
- Jockey: Donagh Meyler
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 80/1
- Weight: 11st 1lb
- Age: 9
A former Graded performer, but the wheels have well and truly come off. It’s hard to envision any scenario that has Farouk D’alane winning a Grand National.
- Pros: Hard to find any.
- Cons: Has lost his way.
- Verdict: Has lost his way completely. Avoid.
Click here to bet on Farouk D’alene
- Name: (15) Eldorado Allen
- Jockey: Brendan Powell
- Trainer: Joe Tizzard
- Odds: 100/1
- Weight: 11st
- Age: 10
Hasn’t won since February 2022, and there is no way Eldorado Allen breaking that losing streak in a Grand National.
- Pros: He jumps well.
- Cons: Lacks the class. Won’t stay 4 miles.
Click here to bet on Eldorado Allen
- Name: (16) Ain’t That A Shame
- Jockey: Mr David Maxwell
- Trainer: Henry de Bromhead
- Odds: 66/1
- Weight: 10st 13lb
- Age: 10
Well fancied for this last season when ridden by Rachael Blackmore, but now after being bought by David Maxwell, he gets the leg up. But it’s not the horse form you should be worried about, it’s the skill set processed by Maxwell.
Even given how impressive he was when winning this season’s Thyestes Chase, he has no chance with Maxwell doing the steering.
- Pros: Has won this seasons Thyestes Chase
- Cons: David Maxwell as his jockey. Didn’t seem to act around here last season.
- Verdict: A talented horse, but best to avoid.
Click here to bet on Ain’t That A Shame
- Name: (17) Vanillier
- Jockey: Sean Flanagan
- Trainer: Gavin Cromwell
- Odds: 9/1
- Weight: 10st 12lb
- Age: 9
Ran on late in the day to take 2nd in last years running behind Corach Rambler. If he was ridden closer to the pace things might have been different.
A big weight swing in his favour might well be enough to turn the form around with Corach Rambler, but with that said, Vanillier has shown next to nothing this season. We know that this has been the target all season, but given that he was well and truly put in his place by I Am Maximus in February.
Does he have his chance? Yes, but for a horse whose season is geared around this race he finds it hard to win over all and has only ever won once over fences.
This test needs to bring the best out of him for him to win. But it’s not impossible.
- Pros: 2nd in last year’s Grand National. Well weighted to try to go one better.
- Cons: Has shown very little this season. Only one win over fences.
- Verdict: Has his chance, but for me he will find one too good.
Click here to bet on Vanillier
- Name: (18) Mr Incredible
- Jockey: Brian Hayes
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 12/1
- Weight: 10st 11lb
- Age: 8
If you go back to last year’s Grand National and watched it up to before they jumped the Canal Turn for the second time, there was no one traveling as well as Mr Incredible. But just as quick as he landed over the Canal Turn his jockey was out the side due to a slipped saddle.
He warmed up for the Grand National with a 2nd in the Midland National, a race in which he probably should have won.
If he comes on for that run, then expect a massive run from this once lunatic of a horse.
- Pros: Has age on his side. Was running a massive race in last year’s renewal. Comes here in good form.
- Cons: Has been known to have a mind of his own.
- Verdict: Can play a big part in the finish. Massive chance.
Click here to bet on Mr Incredible
- Name: (19) Run Wild Fred
- Jockey: Tom Hamilton
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 100/1
- Weight: 10st 10lb
- Age: 10
Go back to 2022 and Run Wild Fred was sent off 8/1 for a Grand National. But the days of him being competitive in a Grand National are well and truly over.
There are more letters in his form than number, and that tells you all you need to know about his chances here.
- Pros: Unfortunately there are none.
- Cons: He’s past his best.
- Verdict: A fine servant in his day, but avoid here.
Click here to bet on Run Wild Fred
- Name: (20) Latenightpass
- Jockey: Miss Gina Andrews
- Trainer: Dan Skelton
- Odds: 40/1
- Weight: 10st 10lb
- Age: 11
A winner of the Aintree Foxhunter over the National fences back in 2022 when trained by T Ellis, but has since switched to the in form Dan Skelton this season, and with that has come improved form. But as of March 26th, he is gone back in training with T Ellis.
Started the season with a good 2nd to Foxy Jacks in the Cross Country at the November meeting at Cheltenham, and stepped up on that form when winning the December verison that included Minella Indo and Galvin. It’s also worth noting that his jockey Gina Andrews has partnered him through his whole racing career.
Looks a shade over priced considering his experience over the National fences
- Pros: Winning form over the National fences. Has shown improving form this season.
- Cons: Age not on his side.
- Verdict: Not without a each way chance, and looks overpriced.
Click here to bet on Latenightpass
- Name: (21) Minella Crooner
- Jockey: Kevin Sexton
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 80/1
- Weight: 10st 10lb
- Age: 8
Very much one of Gordons entries that you would be shocked if he was to play a leading role. In his younger days he threatened to become a high quality operator, but the wheels have well and truly fallen off.
Last seen pulling up in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and it will be more the same here.
- Pros: If he shows his old form he might have an each way chance
- Cons: Form not up to scratch this season. Well beaten the last twice.
Click here to bet on Minella Crooner
- Name: (22) Adamantly Chosen
- Jockey: Sean O’Keeffe
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 50/1
- Weight: 10st 9lb
- Age: 7
Came back to form with a bang last time out when beating Roi Mage by 14 lengths, and he has it in him to run a massive race.
Has age on his side, and if he shows up in the same form as Down Royal he could be bang there come the finish.
- Pros: Has age on his side, and comes in here on the back of a career best win.
- Cons: No Grand National experience.
- Verdict: Very much a dark horse considering his Grade 1 novice chase form. Could be underestimated.
Click here to bet on Adamantly Chosen
- Name: (23) Mac Tottie
- Jockey: James Bowen
- Trainer: Peter Bowen
- Odds: 100/1
- Weight: 10st 9lb
- Age: 11
Mac Tottie has a love affair with Aintree with wins on the Mildmay and Grand National course in the past.
They may have left it too late to come to the Grand National with him, but he will give backers a run for their money without winning.
- Pros: Shows his best form at Aintree
- Cons: Stamina may be an issue. Age not on his side.
- Verdict: A fine servant who deserves a crack at the National, but will more than likely come up short.
Click here to bet on Mac Tottie
- Name: (24) Chemical Energy
- Jockey: Danny Gilligan
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 50/1
- Weight: 10st 9lb
- Age: 8
It’s very hard to be confident in Chemical Energy as he has always been a horse that teases you that he has a big win in him, but always lets you down.
Backing him comes with many risks, but the National fences might give him the spark he needs.
- Pros: Has it in him to out run his odds.
- Cons: Has failed to live up to expectations more than once.
- Verdict: Had to be confident that he will turn his form around. Best to avoid.

- Name: (25) Limerick Lace
- Jockey: Mark Walsh
- Trainer: Gavin Cromwell
- Odds: 20/1
- Weight: 10st 8lb
- Age: 7
The choice of Mark Walsh, Limerick Lace looks set to run a huge race here. She comes in here on the back of a win in the Mares Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and has a lot going for her here.
She brings big field handicap form to the table and with ground conditions they way there are they will not faze her, if anything it enhances her chances. She is bred to relish this kind of test and could be the first mare to win the Grand National since 1951.
- Pros: Will relish the trip and ground conditions
- Cons: A mare has not won the National since 1951
- Verdict: Massive chance of becoming the first mare since 1951 to win the Grand National. At 20/1, she is a great each way bet.

- Name: (26) Meetingofthewaters
- Jockey: Danny Mullins
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 9/1
- Age: 7
JP McManus has another runner who looks set to have him on the edge of his seat this Saturday. To me, he is one of the most progressive horses in the field and still looks ahead of his mark even on the back of his 3rd in the Ultima Handicap Chase.
Still looked like he was learning on the job when getting outpaced in the Ultima, but once the penny dropped again he ran on strongly at the finish.
Has to prove he wants this kind of test, but he looks every inch of a future high class stayer. It’s very hard to pick holes in him, so expect to see him bang there at the business end.
- Pros: Still looks well handicapped. Exciting staying chaser.
- Cons: Will need to avoid being outpaced.
- Verdict: A key player here, and if it all clicks here he is a danger to all.

- Name: (27) The Goffer
- Jockey: Sean Bowen
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Odds: 66/1
- Weight: 10st 8lb
- Age: 7
The Goffer seems like he has been around forever, but yet he is only a 7yo. Has form that would give him a each way chance, but on everything we know he would be a shock winner.
- Pros: Bundles of big field handicap chase form.
- Cons: We know his limitations.
- Verdict: Will give you a good run for your money, but hard to see him playing a serious part here.
Click here to bet on The Goffer
- Name: (28) Roi Mage
- Jockey: James Reveley
- Trainer: Patrick Griffin
- Odds: 66/1
- Weight: 10st 8lb
- Age: 12
Ran a massive race last season to finish 7th behind Corach Rambler, but the petrol tank emptied jumping the last.
It would be a miracle if he was to win, but he could well run into a place.
- Pros: Ran a massive race last season and seems to still love the game.
- Cons: He is now a 12yo.
- Verdict: For all that he is a 12yo, if he can run to the same level as last year he could sneak a place.
- Name: (29) Glengouly
- Jockey: Michael O’Sullivan
- Trainer: Willie Mullins
- Odds: 66/1
- Weight: 10st 7lb
- Age: 8
He’s been going the right way of late, and if he improves on his career best 2nd in the Thyestes Chase back on ground he will handley, then there is no reason why he can not put himself in with a shout.
- Pros: Has it in him to run well, and has shown it recently. Won’t mind the ground conditions.
- Cons: Can be in and out of form. Needs to leave his Cheltenham flop behind him.
- Verdict: Hard to know what Glengouly will turn up, but if he wakes up on the right side of the stable, 66/1 could be a gift.
Click here to bet on Glengouly
- Name: (30) Galia Des Liteaux
- Jockey: Harry Skelton
- Trainer: Dan Skelton
- Odds: 25/1
- Weight: 10st 7lb
- Age: 8
For a start the Skeletons could not be in much better form coming into this week, and on the back of a hugely successful Cheltenham Festival they could be about to top it all off with a win in the Grand National.
Galia Des Liteaux put her hat into the ring as a big player for the Grand National when finishing strong staying 2nd over 3m5f at Warrick back in January.
You can forgive her odds on defeat at Exeter and be full of confidence that Dan Skelton will have her primed to run the race of her life.
- Pros: Will relish the trip. Stable is in flying form. Featherweight.
- Cons: No mare has won the National since 1951.
- Verdict: Comes in here with a big part to play. Expect a massive run from this mare.

- Name: (31) Panda Boy
- Jockey: J J Slevin
- Trainer: Martin Brassil
- Odds: 14/1
- Weight: 10st 7lb
- Age: 8
This has been the talking horse for the Grand National for quite a while, but I can’t bring myself to jump on the bandwagon because he simply does not win enough. There have been easier races that he contested that he failed to win.
Does he have a strong chance of winning? Yes. But I expect him to find a few too good here even given the fact he could be well in. I have my worries about him staying, but don’t let that put you off backing him.
- Pros: Brings good handicap chase form to the table. Weighted to run a huge race.
- Cons: Should have more wins to his name. Suspect stayer.
- Verdict: Comes with his chance, but at the price I would leave alone.

- Name: (32) Eklat De Rire
- Jockey: Darragh O’Keeffe
- Trainer: Henry de Bromhead
- Odds: 100/1
- Weight: 10st 7lb
- Age: 10
Very few miles on the clock for a 10yo, who back in the day looked like he was going to make into a high class horse.
You have to go back to 2021 for his last win, and there is nothing suggesting that he is suddenly going to get back in the winners enclosure any time soon.
- Pros: If getting back to his best then this mark could be a gift.
- Cons: Has shown next to nothing in 3 years.
- Verdict: A leap of faith would be required to back Eklat De Rire here. Best to avoid.

- Name: (33) Chambard
- Jockey: Miss Lucy Turner
- Trainer: Venetia Williams
- Odds: 80/1
- Weight: 10st 7lb
- Age: 12
What a servant Chambard has been for his connections, and you only have to go back to December of 2023 to see him romping home by 13 lengths in the Beachers Chase.
Hard to see him as a win play, but he could seriously out run his 80/1 odds given his recent winning form over the National fences.
- Pros: Recent winning form on heavy ground over the National fences.
- Cons: His best days are behind him.
- Verdict: A truly loveable horse who at 80/1 is worth a small each way play.
- Name: (34) Kitty’s Light
- Jockey: Jack Tudor
- Trainer: Christian William
- Odds: 14/1
- Weight: 10st 7lb
- Age: 8
Not so much a dark horse given his odds, but a horse who still will be overlooked given his trainer.
Last season he won the Eider Chase over 4m 1½f, the Scottish Grand National over 4m, and then just one week later he took the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown.
He is a horse that needs to be taken seriously as he has the proven form over this kind of trip, and when many are crying enough, Kitty’s Light will be relishing every yard.
- Pros: Has winning form over extreme distances. Could still be well weighted.
- Cons: Has only ever ran on heavy ground once resulting in a 35 length defeat.
- Verdict: Ticks a lot of boxes, so don’t be surprised if he is fighting out the finish.

My Grand National Top 3 Bets
It’s always hard to find the winner of any Grand National let alone the test that the Aintree Grand National processes. But, I think I have three selections who will be back there at the finish.
- 1 – Limerick Lace 20/1
- 2 – Meetingofthewaters 9/1
- 3 – Nassalam 20/1
