ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The restaurant industry is ever-changing with restaurants opening, closing, relocating, or just doing their thing. Here’s a recap of the latest Capital Region restaurant news, April 8 through 12.

Saratoga Springs coffee shop rebrands with name change

The Broadway Grind, located at 493 Broadway in downtown Saratoga Springs, now has a new name. Owner Christine Hernandez has rebranded the shop to Broadway Coffee Co.

Albany’s Olde English Pub under new ownership

The Olde English Pub & Pantry, located in Albany’s historic Quackenbush Square, is under new ownership. The outgoing owners made the announcement in a Facebook post on Saturday, April 6.

Gus’s Hot Dogs celebrates 70 years in business

A local business marked a milestone on Monday. Gus’s Hot Dogs in Watervliet celebrated 70 years in business.

Mexican bakery opens on Madison Ave in Albany

Daisies Pasteles, a bakery specializing in Mexican desserts, had its soft opening at 418 Madison Avenue in Albany on Friday, March 29. The bakery is in the former Son of Egg space, which closed in September 2023.

Berkshire County’s Old Mill restaurant closing after 46 years

The Old Mill, located at 53 Main Street in South Egremont, is closing its doors after 46 years. Owner Terry Moore made the announcement on the Old Mill website on April 3.

Jacko’s Corner in Salem revived by new owner

After closing at the end of October, Jacko’s Corner is now being revived under new ownership. Owner Asif Ismail is working to bring his vision of cooking and food to Salem.

New Mexican restaurant opens in Rensselaer

Al Punto Picante Mexican Restaurant has opened its doors at 1204 Washington Avenue in Rensselaer. The restaurant had its official grand opening on Tuesday at 11 a.m., according to Rensselaer Mayor Mike Stammel.

Bakery opening in former Sky Port Diner space in Glenville

Scotia Sweets, an at-home bakery that started during the COVID-19 pandemic, is opening up a storefront in Glenville. The bakery will be located at 35 Freemans Bridge Road, in the former Sky Port Diner space.

Where has Baskin-Robbins been in the Capital Region?

Last week, Baskin-Robbins, an international chain of ice cream and specialty cake shops, confirmed to NEWS10 that it is opening up a shop in Guilderland. Although this would be the only Baskin-Robbins currently in the area, this is not the first time the ice cream chain has been in the Capital Region.

Restaurant, bakery, artisan space coming to Schenectady

The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority has approved funding for three new businesses in downtown Schenectady. The businesses are JoJo’s Tap Room, Connie’s Creative Market, and Connie’s Confectionary.

Caroga Lake tavern property up for sale

Hope LaFreniere opened Slate – A Rustic Tavern at the end of January 2023. The property is currently listed for sale, and it actually hit the market soon after Slate opened.

Nassau pizzeria and deli closing after 12 years

Village Pizza & Deli, located at 2 Malden Street in Nassau, is closing its doors after 12 years. Owners Marsha and Jim Winters made the announcement in a Facebook post on April 10.

Italian restaurant Via Cassia opens in Hudson

Originally from California, chef Guy Arnone worked at some of the best Italian restaurants in New York City for 10 years before moving to Tuscany during the COVID pandemic. Once there, he worked at a vineyard before moving back to the states to open Via Cassia in Hudson.
